乗客をいち早く海に飛び込ませるため、機転の利く船長がこう言った。
To quickly get the passengers to jump into the sea, the resourceful captain said the following:

船長はアメリカ人に「今飛び込めばヒーローになれるでしょう」と言った。
To the American passenger, the captain said, "If you jump now, you can become a hero."

船長はイギリス人には「こういう時にこそ紳士は海に飛び込むものです」と言った。
To the British passenger, the captain said, "In times like this, a gentleman jumps into the sea."

船長はドイツ人に「規則ですので飛び込んでください」と言った。
To the German passenger, the captain said, "Please jump into the sea as it is a rule."

船長はフランス人に「決して海に飛び込まないでください」と言った。
To the French passenger, the captain said, "Please never jump into the sea."
